Chifam was created in 1979 with the aim of manufacturing brake parts and clutch hydraulic parts as a "spin off" to Metelli company. In 1984 Chifam was transformed into separate private limited company. Later in 1996 a merger took place with Metelli again.

The AL-KO suspension in Spain is specialised in manufacturing both original equipments shock absorbers and after market shock absorbers. Since 1989 the factory belongs to German Group AL-KO Kober AG.
